“Twitter core services latency reduced by ~400ms.Should feel noticeably faster.”
- senttoschool 4y agoDon't feel any change.
- quantified 4y agoSame. 400ms would be perceptible.
- xbmcuser 4y agoI know he is a polarising figure and gets a lot of blind hate or blind support. But as someone that uses twitter sporadically I do seem to feel that twitter is now faster. I think twitter did have a problem that the people that were running it were not heavy twitter users so did not care about making it better for twitter users. If nothing else I think twitter tech will now improve but twitter being financially viable is another question.
- senttoschool 4y agoI feel like it's been slower. It's not clear if the 400ms improvement is from before the takeover or after. Elon did not elaborate. Also, I've been seeing way more spam. Obvious spam. Nearly every crypto post is followed by at least 1 spam message. Sometimes all comments are spam. I don't remember it being this bad before.
- nullish_signal 4y agoJust yesterday I clicked into "Show me the Spam", as I love to do, and saw a nice chain of 7 identical crypto spam links
- nullish_signal 4y agoIn a YouTube video, the Starbase Tour with Elon Musk, he reveals a core Engineering principle: Compare our Rocket Manufacturing Process Costs with a Genie that can Magically turn Sheet Steel into Rockets for $0. This silly excercise helps you spot wasteful processes that do not meaningfully contribute to a cost-effective end product. In Twitter's case, Musk mentioned that "A Twitter Home Tab load is about 100 poorly-batched RPC calls " and so I think there is a lot of room to get Twitter data-logistics a LOT closer to a Genie that magically delivers tweets for free. Next - Maybe Musk can take a look at the under-performing Online of Nintendo's Animal Crossing New Horizons, and Splatoon 3
- keikobadthebad 4y agoTechnical solution to problems of governance means we get someone else's propoganda 400ms faster.
- gerikson 4y agoHaven't noticed a speed increase, did not feel it was a problem before. Now however twitter.com keeps forgetting I want "latest tweets" and resets it to "top tweets" every time I visit. I also only get about 2 hours worth of backlog before I have to klick the "show more tweets" in the iPad client.
- timonoko 4y agoYou are in error Elon. It has been reduced by ~60000 ms. The "load more"- semishadowban group has now now been totally liberated and messages appear immediately. Previously it took a minute before messages appeared to the end of the list and were readable only after several "load more"-messages. Such account is ofcourse totally unusable, and you are thus prompted to make a new one. I remembered one such blocked account (created 2013) and found it now totally good. I also remembered why this account was banned, I used forbidden word of the day, which was "TommyRobinson" in Europe 2018.
- sidcool 4y agoCan we now say there's a reality distortion field at play here?
- BulgarianIdiot 4y agoSure. I mean that was always the case. The problem is that his inner asshole is too much out in the open for everyone to ignore, and this interferes with the reality distortion field significantly. Steve Jobs was better at this.
- kurtextrem 4y agoIdk but, at least from Germany Twitter now loads slower. The comments below Elon's tweet load slow, my home timeline loads slow, even the notifications load slow. Before the "reduced by 400ms" change everything was faster for me (I never understood who perceives the Android app or Twitter in general as slow - NOW I do). I'm guessing a dev made US calls faster, so that he/she can tell Elon it's faster without mentioning for the US only.
- rsynnott 4y agoFrom Ireland, it feels like the _page itself_ is loading faster, but the actual info (timeline, replies to tweets, sidebars) are loading much slower and sometimes erroring out. I'm sure a metric on a graph somewhere has improved, but the user experience as a whole feels slower and more fragile than it did a few months ago.
- pinewurst 4y agoI'm strongly reminded of Xi Jinping suggesting a different potato variety for villagers to plant, thus changing their lives.
