Without wanting to come across as fatalistic, because there is still a lot we can and should do to avoid the worst, it is already too late not only for a large number of humans born today in unfortunate parts of the a, but also for a lot of animal and plant species.
Don't get me wrong, I don't believe the planet will die, it'll just become a lot less inhabitable. There's a rather informative xkcd that visualises the rate of change in temperature, which - while entertaining - should give people pause, but we humans are good at ignoring uncertain future outcomes, so it doesn't [0].
But I do believe that by the time the major players have decided to take climate change seriously, the situation will be very much out of control. So much so that, for example, the stream of African refugees in Europe will have increased in a way that is unimaginable to us now.
As an aside, that is also why I don't understand why far right parties in Europe aren't doing anything they can to prevent it, but that's probably just the nature of the far right.
