From @_KarenHao:
"Chinese leader Xi Jinping has packed the top ranks of the Communist Party with a new generation of leaders who have experience in aerospace, artificial intelligence and other strategically important areas, as Beijing seeks to become a science and technology superpower that rivals the U.S."
"Chinese officials with technical expertise occupy 81 seats, nearly 40% of the total, in the new Central Committee—the elite body that decides major national policies—according to data compiled by @BrookingsInst and shared exclusively with The Wall Street Journal."
"On the party’s ruling 24-person Politburo, the core of the Central Committee, the number of science- and tech-savvy decision makers rose to eight from two."
“Many of the new technocrats in the Central Committee come from emerging industries that Beijing has identified as strategic priorities, including semiconductors, environmental science and biotechnology."

- sylware 4y agoMy opinion is all significant regions of the world should be able to manufacture their leading-edge chips because we know now this is critical for any modern society. We can think then, and only then, about an international cooperation "à la" nuclear fusion (i.e. ITER). Then you can think of some international "glue": RISC-V (machine code level global interop). We would need high-performance, multi-lateraly trusted (the super hard part), open source chip base designs(mobile/desktop/server/niche). Americas with the US currently restoring its manufacturing capabilities (and the heart of RISC-V), EU (netherlands/germany) manufacturing the leading-edge tools (ASML) is still unable to have a leading-edge foundry of its own or performant chip designs, India (their defence started to manufacture non-leading edge RISC-V processors), non-China asia (South Korea/Taiwan are the heart of the current leading-edge chip manufacturing with EU tools), China (has to R&D/build everything on their own), Russia (should have been EU, now they will have to piggy back china I guess, but even that...), middle-east/africa? Oceania is strongely linked to the "western world" (for now), aka US/EU. leading-edge chips use much less power for the same amount of critical work which is MIR (health critical), sciences state-of-the-art R&D, telecom(devices/infra), weather forecast, monetary systems, advanced weaponery. Entertainment (movies, games, music, art...) is driving hard the performance of those chips. And forget about "making money", since "making money" out of that is "optional" since it is critical and strategic for any modern society (see that like defence).
