Prior to Musk’s arrival, Twitter had established a permanent work-from-anywhere arrangement for its workers
...for some definition of the word "permanent".
- MonkeyMalarky 4y agoUpdated to "work-from-anywhere in the building" now. With half of the staff gone you can claim any empty desk or office in sight, I hear the CISO and chief compliance officer's spots are open!

- aeyes 4y agoDid you sign a new contract making your work location "remote"? If not then it was never going to be permanent.
- ghaff 4y agoIn the US at least, even if you're categorized as remote, the company can almost certainly pull you back to an office and fire you if you won’t. It probably wouldn't be considered as "for cause" (IANAL) but a company can pretty much unilaterally change work conditions, responsibilities, etc. so long as no labor laws are violated.

- bogota 4y agoReally feel bad for anyone who went out and bought a house in another place or made life decisions based on this policy which is likely a lot of people. This is really showing that you don’t respect or care about your employees which is par for the course for musk. However i think what he is forgetting is that Twitter isn’t some amazing challenge to solve like self driving or rockets. I think you will see a very understaffed twitter in the future.
- Firmwarrior 4y agoMan, that's an interesting point I could imagine putting up with a lot of shit from Elon if I believed I was building a better future for humanity in the process, but it's hard to see how a social network is accomplishing that
- padjo 4y agoYep you get away with a lot of shitty leadership and tough conditions if you can get everyone to buy in to the mission. Hard to see how you could convince anyone that twitter is worth fighting for now.
- literalAardvark 4y agoDebatable. "The town square for the world" is a lofty enough goal.
- bogota 4y agoEvery company has a cool tagline for how they are changing the world. Very few are.
- baobabKoodaa 4y agoDo the workers actually drink this kool-aid, though?
- bogota 4y agoYeah that is the real question. If musk can sell this to the employees and turn twitter into a tesla/spacex culture i would honestly never bet against him again. I would also be curious to read about how he was able to do that.
- refurb 4y agoYou'd have to be aware of the risks of buying a house somewhere far from the office. Nothing says the company can't change their mind.
