Twitter plans to order remaining workers back to office after layoffs
- ksidudwbw 4y ago8$ is a burger menu
- suroori 4y agoThere has to be something better. Cut the junk food and begin healthy life.
- solardev 4y agoLost a lot of respect for Musk over this. Terrible way to treat employees.
- zzleeper 4y agoOnly now? Ever since the pedo scandal he has looked as either extremely narcissist or just unhinged...
- solardev 4y agoHe's definitely both, but neither was a dealbreaker for me. He's quite immature but they doesn't really bother me. Mistreating his employees does though.
- suroori 4y agoHow dare you criticize him? Have you achieved what he did in your life?
- zingimungu 4y agoWhat's the problem with criticizing him? We don't have to achieve anything to do that. We can see what he does wrong and object to that regardless of our status or achievements. This is a poor argument from you.
- xerxesaa 4y agoTo be fair, I think the commentor was being sarcastic.
- gremlinsinc 4y agoI formed a man crush w/ the BFR, etc and the mars video surfacing around 2016... Since then I've slowly, then faster begun to hate the man, like a seething hatred for all he stands for he's smug, narcissistic, and just an exploiter of people. I've also learned more about his back story, etc (where his wealth really came from - mines in S. Africa). Personally, I think Twitter employees need to form a union and do it TODAY.
- solardev 4y agoYeah, I used to idolize Musk when I was younger -- especially in contrast to the likes of Bezos and Zuckerberg. Musk seemed the eccentric genius the world needed, funneling money towards important but neglected causes. Sure, he was weird and kooky and an absolute narcissist, but whatever, minds are just different and maybe it took one like his to actually execute those grand visions. But then the celebrity status started to change him more and more. Twitter turned him into an alt-Trump-lite figure, more and more obsessed with his personal image instead of his causes. The pedo scandal was a wtf moment, and then his bizarre forays into the crypto-hellscape made it seem like he cliffdove right into the deep end. Overnight, "mad scientist" turned into "media freakshow", like the techbro version of Paris Hilton. Today he still deserves a mountain of credit for Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink -- there's no denying he jumpstarted not one but three important industries -- but man, if he's going to start playing ruthless finance games with random people's lives just satiate his ego... eh, no thanks. I was really looking forward to both a Tesla and a Starlink someday, but not so much anymore =/ Hopefully some of those technologies will trickle-down to other, more mundane companies. I can live with a little less innovation and bleeding-edge if that means people get treated better.
- dekhn 4y agoBezos is brilliant compared to both Musk and Zuckerberg. He understands long games and how to exploit workers effectively.
- chinabot 4y agoYeah, no other company mistreats employees.. Fucking Musk
- guax 4y agoYour argument being that we should just be happy about it then? Think about what argument you're trying to make here.
- chinabot 4y agoMy argument is it happens everywhere and I mean everywhere, just look at any 2 or 3 of the top HN headlines, and this obsession on just one man is stupid bordering on unhealthy. Now you think about what argument I'm trying to make here.
- solardev 4y agoIt's hardly an obsession. I spend approximately five minutes a year thinking about Musk. shrug Just wondered what would happen to Twitter after the takeover. Now we know. More to the point, though, I don't think we should normalize the exploitation and mistreatment of labor. Doesn't matter if it's one CEO or ten or ten thousand, it's not cool anywhere.
- oaththrowaway 4y agoMy guess is that it's an easy way to cull the herd more without paying severance.
- senttoschool 4y agoI like this decision. I'm not a believer of remote work. I believe it decreases overall company efficiency and creativity. Execution also suffers.
- midoridensha 4y agoI like this decision too, however I do believe in remote work. I'm hoping this company will go into a death spiral and go the way of MySpace or worse, so Musk loses all the money he put into it. He should have just stuck to EVs and rockets.
- rootusrootus 4y ago> He should have just stuck to EVs and rockets. Exactly. Engineering problems can be solved. Human nature is not an engineering problem. Not only is Elon going to lose a metric shitload of money from his Twitter acquisition, he's going to lose a huge amount of whatever goodwill was left over after pedo guy.
- midoridensha 4y ago>Not only is Elon going to lose a metric shitload of money from his Twitter acquisition, he's going to lose a huge amount of whatever goodwill was left over after pedo guy. Honestly, I seriously doubt this prediction. Not that I don't want it to become true, but I have little faith that people have enough decency to stop being his fans after the pedo thing and all the other crap he's said and done. Just look at how many people are die-hard Trump supporters still.
- jakupovic 4y agoYes this must be the reason we had improvements to efficiency last 2 years, while not in the office. Simply, you're provably wrong based on past data.
- senttoschool 4y agoWe've had far less efficiency. This is why Apple, Google, Microsoft have all called for a return to office. And every once in a while, Zuckerberg complains about worker productivity.
- notacoward 4y agoAt some point one has to wonder if driving Twitter into oblivion is actually his intention. Not sure exactly why he would do that, but his actions so far have seemed more consistent with that than with any intention of saving it.
