Jeff Bezos' $500M yacht is like 0.4% of his net worth. I don't know how many properties he has, but I'd be shocked if it's more than a few percent. The man could buy Rolexes and Audemars Piguets on a whim, and it wouldn't even move the needle. Compare that yacht to the equivalent purchase of a well-off, working engineer (with, say, a $1M net worth): that's a $4000 purchase. It's a nice computer. Point being, some people are so wealthy that even relatively "conservative" expenditures look extravagant.
