New Pill Replicates Exercise and Strengthens Muscle
- chatterhead 4y agoWhoa. This is almost unbelievable. This smacks of a Capt. America like drug. Article claims "no side effects" and the "system" they used to discover this compound sure sounds like AI. "Researchers from Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) used a novel drug screening system in a recent study that was published in the journal Bone Research to identify a compound that replicates the changes in muscle and bone that arise from exercise." Also, this sounds like a possible cure for Boneitis for that 80s guy from Futurama.

- asimjalis 4y agoThis. Great news for mice. Not so great for everyone else.
- whatshisface 4y agoIt is not always great news for mice, because often the mice a disease is cured in were models genetically engineered to have that disease.
- waldirbj 4y agonext step is to turn humans into mice, easy
- bicijay 4y agoDid they rediscover AAS?
- fragmede 4y ago> LAMZ, a newly identified locomomimetic drug was found to facilitate the calcium signaling pathway and restores locomotor fitness.
- bpodgursky 4y agoI was just about to say... I don't want to be That Guy, but testosterone or many of the precursors will absolutely lead to muscle growth even without exercise.
- yazzku 4y agoClickbait. It's better to share stuff like this on Facebook.
- ck2 4y agoI think there needs to be a movement to not allow click-bait websites to interpret scientific studies for the public. Even just the use of the word "pill" in the title to reference a novel drug discovery is a big red flag of media quality. actual study https://www.nature.com/articles/s41413-022-00225-w https://www.nature.com/articles/s41413-022-00225-w
- XorNot 4y agoThe article is actually very reasonable and covers the study results well. If an analogous system can work in humans, then this is an incredible result with major public health implications.
- ck2 4y agoThere are "exercise in a pill" studies/articles literally every year. Aging research is where the money is at so it gets the attention but little comes from it. Here's another one, different drug, same hype. https://longevity.technology/news/if-you-can-preserve-muscle-strength-you-will-age-healthier/ https://longevity.technology/news/if-you-can-preserve-muscle...
