- NexRebular 4y agoI wonder if there even is public mercurial hosting available anymore. This git monoculture is starting to be a bit annoying.
- Aeolun 4y agoFor the longest time I just couldn’t see what the fuzz (about Git) was about. But after finally switching I don’t think I’d ever go back.
- ColonelPhantom 4y agoWhat VCS were you coming from, and what makes Git so much nicer? I believe Git and Mercurial are considered to be 'about as good' by most.
- gbear605 4y agoSourceHut offers mercurial hosting, though it’s entirely community maintained.
- slondr 4y agoSourcehut.
- alwillis 4y agoHeptapod supports a Mercurial hosting service (free for OSS) that’s a fork of GitLab: https://heptapod.net/ https://heptapod.net/
- Blackthorn 4y agoReally appreciate the link. Much prefer mercurial to git on my own stuff.
- alwillis 4y agoSame.
- StevePerkins 4y agoTo be fair, hardly anyone ever used Bitbucket due to Mercurial support. Some people probably used it because for awhile, pre-GitLab, it was the GitHub alternative with the most generous free tier for private repos. However, the overwhelming majority of users probably use it because they're already in the Atlassian ecosystem due to JIRA.
- DoctorDabadedoo 4y agoBitbucket is like an ex girlfriend you don't quite recall why you broke up with, but afterwards every time you meet her and hear her voice it all comes back in a rush how disgusted she made you feel.
- alwillis 4y agoHeptapod archived 250,000 Bitbucket Mercurial repos and runs fork of GitLab that supports Mercurial: https://octobus.net/blog/2020-04-23-heptapod-and-swh.html https://octobus.net/blog/2020-04-23-heptapod-and-swh.html
