“The hell with it”–Elon Musk to keep funding Ukrainian Starlink service
- Comevius 4y agoHe is quoting the service at $4500 for a month per unit, but it's $110 for a month on their website with a $599 one-time cost. On one hand SpaceX says that they arrived at $4500 because they are providing the highest level of service, on the other hand they say the $4500 refers to the typical fee for a service like theirs. Meanwhile SpaceX receives billions of dollars of subsidy just for Starlink and just from the United States alone, not to mention the regulatory approval for their satellite network.
- throwaway69123 4y agoAren’t you comparing the residential pricing to military?
- Comevius 4y agoI'm sure something like that is going on, for the military they would pump up the prices. That's where the $100 million comes from, it would cost the Pentagon that much. But Ukraine wouldn't pay that much for it. Satellite internet is a bit of a luxury for them right now. SpaceX was the one giving it to them playing heroes, and it was nice of them, but they should've had a plan for how long they were willing to let Ukraine using it, instead of threatening of turning it off at the whim of their fragile CEO's mood.
