It's kind of weird that the text mode IDE won't run on macOS. FPC/Lazarus themselves run fine there.

  True. On Mac, I'm happy enough with nvim + some plugins. I'm not a pro Pascal programmer though, nor doing rather complex Pascal projects. Still only a hobbyist.
