God, we're already at JDK 20?
- cosmolev 4y agoI remember when Java 8 was a new hip thing: look Ma, lambdas! Or Java 5: oh wow, generics!
- ttfkam 4y agoJava 1.1: Event listeners. No more bubbling!
- mey 4y agoCries in current projects still on Java 8.
- Alupis 4y agoThe 8 -> 9+ transition is rough. But once you've done that, upgrading to the latest LTS is really as simple as it used to be back in the glory days.
- yardstick 4y agoAnd again a pain going 11 LTS to 17 LTS with the great Java EE rename (javax to jakarta).
- vips7L 4y agoI see people say this all the time, but I’ve never actually experienced it and I’ve done 2 upgrades from 8 to 11. Yes they removed some stuff from the jdk, but they’re simple 1 liners in your pom to add back. What have you run into that was a major blocker?
- stockerta 4y agoAre we colleagues?
- Traubenfuchs 4y ago2 major version releases per year, one in March and one in September. 7, 8, 11, 17, 21 are LTS for the annoying companies that refuse to update. LTS cadence went from 3 to 2 years after JDK 17.
- metadat 4y agoWhat happened with 14?
- jamesfinlayson 4y agoI'm not sure - Java 11 was the first LTS in a while and I don't think a new target LTS was decided right after Java 11.
