Twitter Can Detect Screenshots
- josephcsible 4y agoOperating systems shouldn't let apps detect screenshots without the user's permission. (And they shouldn't let apps distinguish between not being granted this permission and the user just never taking any screenshots.)
- dzhiurgis 4y agoHow about certification apps - ones that present questions from a rather small pool. They are incredibly well protected in software, but simple to copy using hardware (or hidden camera)
- pwdisswordfish9 4y agoBetter yet: there shouldn't be any capability to detect screenshots.
- josephcsible 4y agoThat's a bad path to go down. Any program should be able to do anything on a device if the owner of the device authorizes it.
- panzerboiler 4y agoDo you want the operating system to prevent an app to read/manipulate the pixels of a raster image submitted to it? No, thanks. I would avoid instead any app that forces me into doing something that I don't want to do. Detecting screenshots is just one of the many abusive behaviours that most users accept when they register to those services. The same technology that they abuse enables a lot of useful things. Blame the services, not the tech.
- stavros 4y agoAgreed, I don't see why I need to live with an abusive app and try to restrict is capability to abuse me. Instead, I should vote with my feet and leave.
- aaron695 4y agoSnapchat and Instagram (currently only disappearing ) tell the other person if you screenshot - https://www.alphr.com/sent-received-delivered-meaning-snapchat/ https://www.alphr.com/sent-received-delivered-meaning-snapch... I don't know apps could do this.
- BiteCode_dev 4y agoThe fact apps can prevent you from taking screenshots on mobile is one of biggest symptoms of everything that is wrong with this closed ecosystem. Second position being that you have the concept of 'rooting' a phone to get it in the state you have your regular computer in. Of course, with MS pushing more and more restrictive booting conditions for windows and DRM getting in everything, even FOSS, this is only going to get worse.
- savolai 4y agoIn my experience on iOS actually preventing taking the screenshot doesn’t happen though. The app just gets to know it happened and can notify the user of options. Many apps do this, including jodel. Sure, it’s annoying, especially if you want to take multiple screenshots in a row. Recording video of apps sometimes is blocked though. It would be lovely to get vector screenshots someday. That contain the static UI state of a given moment with as much semantics as possible.
- bambax 4y ago> That's why some users are seeing a "Share Tweet?" pop-up whenever the Twitter app notices them taking a screenshot. Don't use the app. Problem solved.
- zydex 4y agoHasn’t screenshot detection been a key feature of Snapchat for many years, possibly even since inception?
