Dev snapshot: Godot 4.0 beta 2
- pwdisswordfish9 4y agoLet's bring back the rule where posting a new submission for every version of some software is a no-go. Godot releases a new point release? Or a new beta? Or a new alpha? Or is expecting to release an alpha soon? This cycle gets repeated every few weeks.
- brundolf 4y agoProgress on Godot 4.0 is a big deal for a lot of people. If you don't care about it, then don't upvote it
- pwdisswordfish9 4y agoIf you don't care for comments recommending things that would change whether Godot non-releases are okay to submit, then don't read them
- esperent 4y agoGodot is a project that deeply excites me, and even more now that they have overcome the issues with publishing on consoles. I hope that we see them take over a large percentage of the Unity market share. They are perfectly suited to it, by all accounts (for small games) the DX is way better than Unity and the community is awesome. It kinda feels like they represent the two sides of modern gaming: Godot is the light side, open source, completely free, strong focus on compatibility and they want to enable people to have a good time both playing and building games. Unity is the dark side. Closed source, focused on advertising and micro-transactions, they barely care about DX and will break anything anytime. They don't care about gaming except for "caring as a marketing strategy", their goal is money. Here's to the light side winning! Go Godot! You're the one we've been waiting for!
- arran-nz 4y agoI have been using the Beta with C#(Mono) since it's release 2 weeks ago on a VR prototype and I've found it very productive. The rendering performance has significantly improved and there's a bunch of great new components - One new addition which was missing in 3.X is the 'Label3D' Node which enables you to render text in your environment, previously you had to project a spatial position to UI layer. It's awesome to see Godot 4 come together.
