Why does Outlook map Ctrl+F to Forward instead of Find
- htk 4y agoIt's incredible how many interesting MS stories Raymond Chen has.
- 1f60c 4y agoI know, right? The Dutch version of Wikipedia says he's worked at Microsoft since 1992. You're bound to hear some interesting stories during that time. (Somewhat surprisingly, the English version of Wikipedia does not have an article about him. Raymond Chen (Microsoft) redirects to an article about the now-defunct Microsoft Developer Network, which mentions him once, in passing.)
- darinpantley 4y agoIt's interesting to see where that originated. I can only imagine how many office workers have run into it. If you press it once then Outlook will forward, but if you press it again then Outlook will find text inside of the email you're forwarding.

- verall 4y agoThis is almost as interesting as the behavior is frustrating.
- _aavaa_ 4y agoThis feels like those jokes that end with: > That man's name? Albert Einstein.
- fomine3 4y agoFun.
- hnzix 4y agoWasn't <f3> the conventional shortcut for app search back in the DOS days? So it makes sense in a backwards compatible way, while still being an annoying anachronism.
- mdrzn 4y agoBy the way, Notepad also uses CTRL+T or F3 to search, so this "CTRL+F works everywhere" is a lie
- aaaaaaaaata 4y agoEverywhere except Microsoft legacy software.
- kuzko_topia 4y agoSo now that this powerful user is gone and the software is still out of convention, we are stuck with an unfriendly behavior on an extremely popular software because of.... Inertia and this makes a cool story?
- zapzupnz 4y agoCool. Knowledge is power. Do something with that knowledge.
