So, like Ravioli without the last i. Raviol.
I don't understand why developers go with these pronunciations. Clang is another offender. The obvious pronunciation was see-lang, but they went for clang, the word. That's insane.
- canadianfella 4y agoRaviol and rebel sound similar to you?
- JBits 4y agoPronouncing Clang as 'see-lang' isn't something I've ever thought of. I see what you mean now that I look at it, though.
- paulryanrogers 4y agoFunny I thought the word was great. CLang would need capitalization or a dash.
- tomjakubowski 4y agowhat makes see-lang the obvious pronunciation? It's not a language. I have always said it "clang".
- lproven 4y ago> So, like Ravioli without the last i. Raviol. I cannot for the life of me imagine how you get any resemblance between those. Ravioli is /ra.viˈɔ.li/ or /raˈvjɔ.li/ -- so "ra" (as in "RAdish") vee OH lee (or ra-vee-YO-lee). So "raviol" would be ra-vee-oh-l. I always said "Rebol" as "REE-boll" but if it rhymes with "rebel" (noun), fine. That's /ˈɹɛbəl/ -- REH-bul. So, REH-bul → REH-bol. OK, no problem. But it's nothing at all like rah-vee-oh-l.
- copperx 4y agoIf you say "rebel yell" quickly, it's similar to ravioli, which is the pronunciation the developers encourage.
- lproven 4y agoI'm curious: in what accent/idiolect? Not in mine, or any I can imagine. (British RP speaker.)

- Jtsummers 4y agoThat is not the pronunciation they encourage, read the whole line: > It's similar to "rebel yell" or "rebel with a cause". "Rebol" is definitely not meant to rhyme with "cause". The common word in the two is "rebel", the emphasis is on the way the syllables break and the sound of the first syllable, not on making it sound like "rebel yell" (which would be a bizarre way to pronounce "Rebol"). This is present to emphasize that while it looks like it could be made into "ree-bowl" or something, it's not supposed to be.
