I have no knowledge of this subject but the paper seems to say this treatment worked in 20/20 subjects, including, if I'm reading correctly, 14 people who were blind. That seems like a pretty huge deal - especially if it's applicable to ~13 million blind people worldwide.
Does this paper represent a breakthrough or have capabilities like this been gradually progressing?
- GauntletWizard 4y agoObviously, it's only going to work in blind people whose blindness results from corneal damage like cataracts and not from eye nerve damage or eye loss. Still, that's a very common cause. Here's hoping that this becomes a routine surgery in our lifetimes.

- amelius 4y agoI think the real metric is the durability of the solution (any other translucent material would reach the same effect, but wouldn't last as long as the body would reject it in most cases).
