FBI search of Trump's Mar-a-Lago related to nuclear documents, sources say
- fuckcensorship 4y agoNon-paywalled: https://archive.ph/mly0y https://archive.ph/mly0y This is off-topic, but why doesn't a bot exist for this yet? Paywalled content seems to be becoming increasingly common and sophisticated so it's surprising to me that no one on HN has made a bot which automatically comments the archive.ph link for any post linking to a known paywalled site.
- kbelder 4y agoMore importantly, why isn't posting a link to a paywalled site against HN rules? HN has plenty of rules to improve the quality of submissions and headlines; why do they allow paywalls?
- bitxbitxbitcoin 4y agoFrom what I understand, bots are discouraged as posters/commenters on HN.
- quantified 4y agoForeign intelligence services would now probably want to go through and see if anything was overlooked. As long as they've been donating enough money, they can be in the building.
- slater 4y agoThat's totally something that is absolutely true. Yep.
- orionion 4y agoBarack Obama put his 31,000,000 "classified documents" in an old Chicago warehouse. Trump made a special double locked safe room at his home guarded by his Secret Service detail for his. The National Archives were still seeking Richard Nixon's "classified documents" as late as 2019 - 25 years after his death. You negotiate over your Presidential Papers, which Trump has been doing, you don't do this in a free country. Enjoy your Trump revenge porn stories for now. Just remember Julian Assange still is not free...
- decebalus1 4y agoThe mental gymnastics to defend Trump are astonishing. But sure, Obama had classified documents (bullshit, btw). While Trump was in the White House and republicans held both chambers of Congress. Why wasn't this investigated? Was the Trump administration an abject failure? Who's to say? So we've been through: - there are no documents - there are documents, but were declassified - there are classified documents, but they've been planted by the Feds We are here > there are classified documents for sure, but Obama had even more classified documents
- slater 4y agoI'd like some (credible) citations for the veracity of those 31m "classified documents" Edit: Did the legwork for you, and what do you know, of course it's mudbrain nonsense: "As was reported back in late 2016, the Obama team was transferring the records to Chicago through the National Archives, which legally owns the documents once a president leaves office. Once the documents ultimately reached a warehouse in Chicago, the Obama Foundation was then due to pay the National Archives and Record Administration to digitize the documents. The lengthiness of that process aside, there isn’t the faintest hint of legal violations — nor does the Post’s story suggest as much. The faintest hint of evidence, of course, is currently surplus to requirements on many portions of the right. Hannity stated conspiratorially that “they shipped 30 million pages of sensitive and possibly classified materials to Chicago,” without noting that the “they” included the National Archives." https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/08/11/fox-trump-maralago-search-obama/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/08/11/fox-trump...
- joezydeco 4y agoEvery presidential library goes through this process. Except Trump, it seems. Is he even creating one?
- decebalus1 4y agoYes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_J._Trump_Presidential_Library https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_J._Trump_Presidential_L... It's not built yet, but rumors are that it's gonna be inside a McDonald's franchise. It's going to be called the McDonald Trump Presidential Library, a public–private partnership. It's going to be great and amazing and the best library maybe ever.

- trevorboaconstr 4y agoGod, if this is true this guy is a trade A moron (like that wasn’t already true). He probably sold nuclear secrets to the Saudis. How will Trump supporters defend this?
- mhh__ 4y agoThe clever supporters will make this about riling up republicans.
