UC Berkeley halts construction of student housing at People's Park after protest
- daemoens 4y agoThere’s a video of the protest where people are chanting “Housing is a human right.” How can you chant that when you’re literally opposing housing?
- dekhn 4y agoThe protesters want transient housing for homeless people, not for more UC Berkeley students. If you haven't seen them, Berkeley has some world-class homeless encampments. You can get some idea of the situation here: https://www.berkeleyside.org/2021/09/02/berkeleys-biggest-homeless-camps-were-closed-where-are-the-residents-now https://www.berkeleyside.org/2021/09/02/berkeleys-biggest-ho... Suffice it to say there are a lot of homeless people in CA and there are activists who want to improve their condition. Whether people's park is an appropriate location to provide transient housing is a controversial issue.
