"AT&T – once part of the mighty Bell System – is advising them by text message to use ..." Wrong. The current corporation that calls itself AT&T never had anything to do with the bell System. The AT&T that was a part of the 'Bell System' started selling off all it's assets at the turn of the century until the only thing that remained was the name. Then one day, a miserable excuse for a cell phone company managed to finally buy themselves a new reputation for quality and customer service by purchasing the AT&T name, and now several years later they still try to make people think they are the old Bell System AT&T.
