It's highly unlikely Russia will be physically able to invade anyone in the foreseeable future. Also, can't help but notice the opposition against "leftist leanings" is the core of Rashist ideology.
- anovikov 4y agoIn fact, you raised an interesting matter. While verbally Russia is far-right, from the inside of it, it is still a far-left society. This is one of the manifestations of doublethinking. From every quantitative metric apart from the percentage of openly LGBT people, Russia is more leftist than every EU country. Like: abortion rate, divorce rate, percentage of Muslims and rate of growth of it, immigration, social spending as percentage of GDP, firearms ownership per capita, percentage of capital stock directly and indirectly in government hands, and so forth - all of these metrics expose a very leftist society. Russia can only be perceived as somewhat right-leaning society because direct taxation of population and most businesses is on the lower side, but that's only because it mostly funds itself with oil money, not taxes on people. It's puzzling to me why Putin chose to present Russia as far-right. It must be nothing but his personal preference, and he doesn't give a damn about it having nothing to do with the country's realities.
- trasz 4y agoLiterally none of the things you’ve mentioned is leftist. Some of them - like divorce rate and abortions - are even typical to American Republicans. Russia is far-right in almost every conceivable way, from religiosity, to inequalities, to racism and attitude to minorities.
- anovikov 4y agowell, far-right tend to be anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant in general (nativists), religious (as in: actually going to church frequently), against abortion or divorce, against government intervention into economy (support low taxes) in general and social spending programs in particular, against LGBT, and pro-gun. Russia is the inverse of all of it except LGBT. Russia is full of Asians and Muslims and actually uses them as a main tool for agression (they are fighting for Putin in Ukraine mainly, not Slavs). Russia has abortion and divorce rates higher than in any EU country, and women are completely independent. Russia is a social state (by constitution) and spends enormous amounts of money to support - more than support, directly feed - tens millions of multigenerational deadbeats. Legally owning any weapon is extremely hard in Russia and rates of ownership are nearly nonexistent, and there is no gun culture in any strata of the society. Russians are atheists and vast majority have never been in church in their lifetime, annual rate of church attendance is lower than weekly rate of attendance in countries like Spain.
