It's been a while since I've studied thermodynamics, but as far as I understand it that sounds like a violation of the second law of thermodynamics.

- bell-cot 4y agoHydrophilic chemicals are a perfectly legal way to dehumidify. You pay the price (energy) when you pry the water & chemicals back apart.
- CorrectHorseBat 4y agoOf course, but as far as I understand this device does exactly that?
- galangalalgol 4y agoFuel cells and electric motors are vastly more efficient at turning propane into motion than a combustion engine. Its possible they found a dessicant that is particularly easy to reverse at stp. Theymention the absorbing dessicant is exothermic which is unusual I think? And they pump that heat over to regenerate the other dessicant under a slight vacuum. Sounds a bit like the oxygen generators people use for lung conditions, or to weld with.
- UncleEntity 4y agoMy understanding is heat from first chamber + external vacuum is used to dry out a second chamber and then the system is reversed when the first chamber is saturated. Energy is being put into the system but it is less than the AC unit cooling humid air on its own so is a net gain relatively speaking.
- andbberger 4y agoit's perfectly legal
- udev 4y agoSounds like the notion of a condenser coil (a very real device) violates your understanding of thermodynamics. I recommend you look up how heat-pumps work: https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/energy-efficiency/energy-star-canada/about/energy-star-announcements/publications/heating-and-cooling-heat-pump/6817 https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/energy-efficiency/energy-star-canada...
- CorrectHorseBat 4y agoNot at all, doing it 30x more efficient than that is what I have issues with.
- Dylan16807 4y agoThere's energy to cool the water, there's energy to condense the water, and there's energy to cool the rest of the air. Why would it be a problem to do just the middle one instead of all three?
- Bloating 4y agoCongress changed the law
