Whats stopping us from using optical phy more often for interconnects? Just cost?
- IshKebab 4y agoYou can use optical for ethernet but it's expensive and mostly for long distances as I understand it. There's no need for that with SATA.
- advisedwang 4y agoCost yes, but also inflexible cables, more space required for transducers, harder to have a bus where multiple devices access the same transmission medium, can't include power in the same connector etc.
