Personally, I find it hard to get away from work, because getting away means changing mindsets and changing mindset takes longer than 48 hours or even a week of vacation. If you've ever quit your job voluntarily and lived in another country for a bit, you'll know what I'm talking about.
- leetrout 4y agoI was just complaining to my wife about this. A vacation is never a vacation. I need at least 3 months off based on how the past chances for a few weeks off has went.
- bikingbismuth 4y agoI just finished a three month vacation between jobs and I agree. Getting (what felt like) so far away from my career, I really got to interrogate my dreams, goals, and plans. I’m still battling with some tough realizations from this time, but I am glad I had the opportunity to do some self exploration. Even though it’s not in my contract, I am going to negotiate a one month sabbatical every three or five years where ever I am working.
- capisce 4y agoThat's called the yearly summer vacation in Europe. Why only every three to five years?
- balfirevic 4y agoTaking a month long vacation in summer would leave exactly zero days off for the rest of the year, for most people I know (not counting weekends and holidays). I'm in Europe.
