Lichess.org Breakdown of Costs
- akudha 4y agoWow, 5.2 million games per day! What a beautiful, inspiring project. I don’t know where the developer is based, but 50k salary is kinda low for running such a heavy site, isn’t it?
- Aeolun 4y agoWow, that’s interesting to see. But it would be more interesting when contrasted to income. I assume Lichess is cash flow positive since it’s been around for such a long time.
- knaik94 4y agoIt's set up as a non-profit. Which makes some of the budget decisions look a lot more grounded.
- BonoboIO 4y agoIf only big beefy machines are needed, you could have your monthly spending on servers with hetzner. Site is hosted on OVH in France, so pings would be similar. https://www.hetzner.com/de/dedicated-rootserver?ram_from=256 https://www.hetzner.com/de/dedicated-rootserver?ram_from=256
- roflyear 4y agoThe company I work for spends 2-3x a month on servers and we have like 10 daily active users.
- than3 4y agoThis document is useless. It lacks any of the normal features needed to inspire professionalism or to be considered a relevant financial document. If it is being released to fulfill some form of regulatory it most likely isn't meeting standards. There is no dated periods, no document title, some expense categories have had category names changed over time but same amounts (this fact taken when considering costs only rise over time). No budget, no last updated, and no actuals, no responsible party listed (not even the auditor). If there are factual inaccuracies in the released document, this could be considered a form of fraud in some jurisdictions.
