The account on reddit that commented it (claiming to be a Microsoft dev) is deleted meanwhile, though :-/ While I agree that the underlying GetVersion() [2] and GetVersionEx() [3] and VerifyVersionInfo() [4] functions were returning "4.xx.yy" as a specific version number, most platforms and runtimes (including NSIS, and even python at the time) were using the platform string to compare whether or not they were on a supported Windows environment.
