‘We’re all afraid’: Massive rent increases hit mobile homes
- Arnt 4y agohttps://archive.ph/nxWKP https://archive.ph/nxWKP «Lot rents typically rise between 4 and 6 percent a year, according to industry sources, though there is little data on exact costs or price increases.» … «In interviews with a dozen mobile home residents around the country, all said their rents had risen this year. Most reported increases of 10 to 25 percent, although some said monthly payments had doubled or tripled.» And perhaps related: «Nationally, the average sales price of manufactured homes has risen nearly 50 percent during the pandemic, from $82,900 to $123,200, census data shows.»
- foxyv 4y agoI've been seeing huge price increases in pre-constructed buildings like sheds. They are being bought up everywhere and used as tiny homes on county land or mother in law homes. We're starting to see a lot of small tiny home communities pop up on the mostly empty lots in the middle of nowhere as well.

- bradknowles 4y agoDuring the time I did a contract for Apple Retail Software Engineering in Cupertino, I saw 20% rent increases in a single year. And among all the people I talked to, that seemed perfectly normal and had been going on for decades. No wonder that a postage stamp of land costs $600k, and that's with the value being depressed by $120 for the shack that is not suitable for human habitation that is currently located there and will have to be torn down.
