HP Failed Our Q1 Secret Shopper Experiment
- MrFoof 4y agoSimilar experience in terms of timeline on similar AMD-powered products. Though here’s the interesting tidbit I can provide: Before placing either of my orders, I actually called (on ye olde telephone) business sales, knowing that the ship dates were impossible. Business sales agrees. They’re very upfront about it when asked. They set expectations with me of more realistic ship dates they actually were correct on (though yes, they were quite far out). Additionally I actually was able to successfully request if any additional discounts available, and they found meaningful ones for me (7% and 11%). ——————— So props to the salespeople reachable by telephone based in the US, but I 110% agree with the article. The HP.com and email experience is terrible at best and sets nothing but false expectations. Shame, because I agree that they make the best x86 1L form factors in the business, hands down. Utterly fantastic, powerful, power-sipping mini-servers if you need x86 hardware.
- rektide 4y agoI own a significant-to-me chunk of AMD stock, & want to believe, but this ability to keep chips shipping, to get basic wins consistently moving, has long been concerning. Mini-pc market is a huge enterprise market; this should be a great lock for AMD with reliable volumes. Availability has been terrible.
- m-p-3 4y agoThey'd also make a decent home server as well with a tiny footprint.
- rektide 4y agoYup, indeed! Business mini-pc's power my home Kubernetes cluster. 100% would prefer it be running AMD right now, but there's no resale market, & hardly a primary market. I used to have converted Chromeboxes but never really got good enough at Kubernetes over there, and one of the boxes kept dying.
- mrlonglong 4y agoWe've been unable to buy any HP kit for months if not a year or more. We now buy in from Lenovo instead. Two fingers raised at HP.
- Gelob 4y agoBuying hpe servers is terrible. They are by far the worst with their projections and taking 1y to deliver. All shipments are being delayed to fulfill government contracts on top of supply chain issues
