I loved using Inkscape when I was running Linux, but since switching to a Mac it’s one of the programs I found to be running a lot worse on that platform compared to what I remembered.
I get that it’s a GTK application so not running with native UI components, but is there something that can be configured or installed to make it more responsive? Just opening Inkscape with a blank document and resizing the window is incredibly laggy, maybe redrawing the window only once or twice a second as I resize it.
edit: I should have installed version 1.2 before posting this comment. I've now tried it and it's much more responsive than it's ever been on macOS. Really great work from the Inkscape team!
- nkozyra 4y agoGood to hear. Current version isn't slow/buggy for me on Macos but it crashes constantly
- whimsicalism 4y agoI would call that buggy
- stjohnswarts 4y agoSlow i can handle but crashing constantly I just can't handle, so definitely a bug.

- CorrectHorseBat 4y agoYou don't see the issue with a Github monopoly? And reporting an issue really isn't any different on Gitlab than on Github, you can even login with your Github account.
- senthil_rajasek 4y agoHonestly, first time I am hearing this concern that a source control system can be a monopoly. This doesn't seem to be a concern for most of the open source projects that I use every day, they are all hosted on github.
- carreau 4y agoHonestly that make you look like an ass. You can "login with GitHub" on GitLab, and the minimum you can do for an open source project that is given to you for free is to make a tiny bit of effort to respect the maintainer choice. Really I assure it's _that_ easy, even I did it a few days ago. If you are not capable of clicking on three button to login on a platform and say "thanks" to a maintainer on an issue that is already there, but have the time and energy to complain on HN, I'm not sure I would want you as a user.
- senthil_rajasek 4y ago@dang is this sort of commenting acceptable?
- renewedrebecca 4y agoTry to back away from the situation and see how you're coming across here. It's a free product, and you're behaving in a really entitled way.
- senthil_rajasek 4y agoI'll happily donate to Inkscape but this is the first open source product that I have seen that uses gitlab! That's truly odd, why? Edit: thank you for your perspective.
- bombela 4y agoIt is slow for me on both Linux and Windows on very recent hardware. It takes seconds to open. Moving around and resizing drawings lags pretty badly. With that said, Inkscape is a really good software.
