  As an engineer, I love having product management around and I love my product manager. I'm desperately trying to get the headcount to hire one more, because I know a great one and having good product people makes it so much easier to make awesome shit that people will actually like using.

  I work with a lot of product managers directly and have worked with many over my career. I have yet to run into the type of product manager mentioned in this Reddit post. Many have advanced STEM degrees and direct product or field experience before they go into product management. A few I know have MBAs but have solid CS or engineering undergrads and backgrounds. Maybe it’s my companies hiring culture or maybe it’s more common in SaaS or software companies.

  I know that I'm very lucky but have still yet to meet one of these PMs. I'm an engineer.
