Sale of Orwell's 1984 forbidden in Belarus
- Jon_Lowtek 4y agoSome more details from the linked Belarusian source, thanks to google translate: The book had been banned in the Soviet Union until 1987. It was translated in 1992 into Belarusian and became a bestseller. Recently new editions were printed by the Yanushkevich Publishing House. The publisher Andrei Yanushkevich has been detained, following the opening of a bookstore linked to the publishing house. Around 200 books were confiscated and are being evaluated if they contain extremist material. This is not the first independent publishing house facing repression.
