Thing is, what i'm telling is the norm in most of the world, including many very democratic and prosperous countries with a strong middle class and whole set of civil liberties leftists in America would love to have. Yes sometimes there's border treaties between rich countries that make borders between them entirely transparent, but the outside borders with the poor world are strictly guarded, and people get checked in the streets, detained, deported and frequently shot, in all of EU, and both left-wing and right-wing political forces - including those that support full set of gay rights, abortions, socialised everything, green goals, and so on - are OK with that. I can't see why it should be any different in America.
