- qbasic_forever 4y agoUnlike Google where Urs demanded his org back in person while he moved to New Zealand to safely work remote: https://www.businessinsider.com/google-exec-reportedly-working-remote-after-opposing-it-for-staff-2021-7 https://www.businessinsider.com/google-exec-reportedly-worki...
- tpmx 4y agoUgh, that is pretty damning.
- nostromo 4y agoAnd it's not just Google. A recent report showed that corporate execs are twice as likely to still be working remotely compared to the rank-and-file, even as their companies mandate returning to the office.. https://finance.yahoo.com/m/6017a433-bf69-48cc-9aa0-70034b2e958f/workers-return-to-the-office%2C.html https://finance.yahoo.com/m/6017a433-bf69-48cc-9aa0-70034b2e...
- jeffbee 4y agoJust before he endorsed slavery on Twitter. "A bad look" doesn't even begin to describe Urs these days. https://www.businessinsider.com/google-exec-urs-holzle-buying-and-selling-people-tweet-2022-3 https://www.businessinsider.com/google-exec-urs-holzle-buyin...

- renewiltord 4y agoOh, he said the most profitable business would be to buy people for what they're worth and sell them for what they think they're worth. The joke being people think they're worth a lot more than what they actually are. Honestly, I think it's a bit much to call that "endorsing slavery" since the intention isn't to say that buying and selling people is good.
- tjpnz 4y agoMeanwhile taking up a place in MIQ which Kiwis desperately trying to return home could've used.
- smugma 4y agoThat’s a good point (and I think it’s true), but that’s not shown here. If he wanted to work remote, they probably would have let him. Maybe he’d be an ICT7 rather than a Director, but same pay scale. His reason for quitting was he felt a more flexible policy would be best for his team. Maybe he even likes being in the office but wasn’t willing to have to tow the party line for a policy with which he didn’t agree.
- rsstack 4y agoIn non-finance US corporations, "director" is middle-management and not an executive.
- smugma 4y agoAt Apple, Director is an executive. It’s sort of equivalent to making partner at a law or consulting firm. Your pay may double or triple as a result, and your annual comp is likely ~$1M+.
