It makes me feel like a freakin' wizard to pull them out and write in them. It's great. Bonus wizard points for using a nice fountain pen.
- sedawk 5y agoI have been a sucker for nice mechanical pencils for well over 2 decades and gone through tons of books or just bunch of papers stapled together, nothing fancy. Been meaning to get into fountain pens, any good recommendations please?
- goldenkey 5y agoSame feeling here. I have a collection of Lord of The Rings limited edition Moleskin notebooks [1] and they make me feel like I'm writing into some compendium of time. I find it to be worth it, considering that even premium office supplies aren't that expensive compared to other life expenses. [1] https://amzn.to/3F1qdaG https://amzn.to/3F1qdaG
- narayanbs 5y agoSo basically, the feeling the tool gives you becomes more important than the task they are intended to perform.
- DavidSJ 5y agoThe right feeling helps you do the task.
- jrumbut 5y agoIf you have to take notes, why not feel like a wizard while you do it?
- woojoo666 5y agoI think they can be equally important. A tool is only useful if you use it, and enjoying a tool makes you use it more
- bryanrasmussen 5y agoIf you're a programmer, do you like working with a nice computer or a bad one? I usually actually like working with a somewhat mediocre one, I prefer my computer to have the power and specs of most of the people who will be using what I make, if it works good on mine maybe works good on theirs. This also lets me treat computers as commodities, essentially disposable. I do not lavish a lot of care on them. Use them, keep them backed up, break them, throw them away. But then I got this new M1, and I think it is so much better than all the other ones I normally use, including older Macs which I do not consider to have been better than any of the other computers I had. It's so good I want to go buy another one in case my wife is using it and I have to make do with another not as nice computer. To use the lesser computers is irritating to me. I feel less productive without it. Does the feeling the tool gives you become more important than the task they are intended to perform? If that feeling is you do the task better with the tool than maybe yes.
- edge17 5y agoThe thing is the M1 does actually compile code faster than a 2015 Macbook Pro. I use both, for things like word processing I find they both work equally well. Notebooks are much less varied in the types of work you do with them. It's mostly pen or pencil to paper kind of work.
- LanternLight83 5y agoI showed your link to my partner, who reccomended some of the inventory of Peter Pauper Press: https://www.peterpauper.com/product_info.php?products_id=7044&cPath=25_67 https://www.peterpauper.com/product_info.php?products_id=704...
- egypturnash 5y agoOh damn those are nice, finally I have someone besides Paperblanks to get my Wizard Notebooks from! Thanks to you and to your partner. <3
- narag 5y agoPersonally I like using nice notebooks with ornate covers based on old books, with metallic ink accents. You must be young. If I used something like that at work, the young yahoos would laugh me out of the building.
- yokoprime 5y agoSounds like they don't have enough to do if they spend their time mocking people over their office supplies. Time to downsize?
- Dylan16807 5y agoI'm very confused by this particular angle. If someone doesn't have a second or two to see what tools someone else is using, they're crazy overworked.
- egypturnash 5y agoI’m fifty.
