Intel CEO Sees Chip Shortage Lasting into 2024
- vondur 4y agoIronically Intel chips seem to be plentiful.
- baybal2 4y agoOf few generations older varieties mostly. Alder lake is impossible to get from distributors. ULP Alders are only sold to tier 1, a teaspoon at a time. On other hand, 2-3, even 4 years old dies from Intel stocks are flooding distributors who use every thing imaginable to get rid of them.

- vondur 4y agoI’m sorry. I base this on the fact that my local MicroCenter retailer seems to have plenty of the 12 series CPU’s in stock. I remember how difficult it was obtaining many of the Ryzen 5000 series for months.
- baybal2 4y agoYou mean BGA laptop chips? Or desktop ones?
- uejfiweun 4y agoOh gee, that's great. Look, I wish we could just be honest with ourselves here. The chip shortage is never going to end. Given the pandemic policies of many supplier countries, the rising US-China tensions, the status of Taiwan, and many other factors, I think that we're gonna have this shortage for quite a while, probably into the late 2020s at least. Until we get serious with ourselves and actually make a gigantic push to develop and subsidize domestic fab capacity, we're gonna have a chip shortage. Of course, such a push would directly benefit Intel, so I'm not surprised to see their CEO agreeing with me.
