Anyone want to donate a fab to a poor hn user? lol
- gnufx 5y agoYou can potentially get sponsorship (but the chips4makers web site seems to be down) https://nlnet.nl/project/Chips4Makers/ https://nlnet.nl/project/Chips4Makers/ Long, long ago, UK academics could get fabrication done at the Rutherford lab, as I saw on a visit, presumably research council-funded but I don't know what the arrangements actually were.
- Sirened 5y agoLOL I remember watching a conference talk where a speaker said "fabrication is becoming incredibly affordable; you can now get a run for as little as $18k!" I think us poor HN users are going to be stuck in FPGAs for the foreseeable future
- taneq 5y agoWhat size production run is that? $18k is a lot for a hobby project but sure seems cheap to have your own custom ICs fabricated. It's definitely well within the realms of things you could crowdsource with a few moderately well off individuals.
- imtringued 5y agoYou get more than one chip for that price.
- glouwbug 5y agoWe'll be stuck on them up until we're asked to invert a binary tree and then we'll start managing restaurants
