CNN+ didn't even have CNN the cable channel, so it wouldn't have worked for what you were thinking of. It had totally different (worse) content...

  And that’s what really confuses me. Why not just start with a simulcast and maybe some extra programming available. That would’ve been so much cheaper. Then grow that into what they wanted it to become.

    Probably because of their contracts with cable companies. The cable companies weren't going to let their own channel compete against them.

      That was the dilemma that HBO used to deal with, but they have seem to found a way out of it..
