Djgpp – 32bit DOS Development System
- bbitmaster 5y agoThis brings back old memories. Amazing how it hasn't changed in 20 years. I was learning c and c++ and this provided a free full development suite comparable to others which were way outside my budget as a teenager. DJGPP + Allegro was great in it's time Nowadays I think there are much more recent versions of GCC that can be made to target DOS. I don't know the work involved, but a guy named bisqwit had some tools.
- lucraft 5y agoMe too. DJGPP and Allegro. I love that this website hasn't changed a bit since then
- malux85 5y agoMe too, When I was 10-13 years old, I had a bunch of old discarded 486 machines and I taught myself programming with DJGPP in DOS, it was an incredible time of learning for me and I have fond memories of finally, after weeks of effort, getting programs to compile and run, that enormous burst of joy is what got me hooked on programming
- hyperman1 5y agoAfter fighting with MIX C compiler bugs for too long, I found out about this project. So I set out to download the C part of it with dialup. Which took ages. So dad got a phone bill that turned him purple, and grounded me for 2 weeks. I couldn't care less as I finally had a C compiler worth using. Thanks, Delorie.
- shdon 5y agoI recently installed this to do a DOS port of a new point and click adventure game my teammates are currently writing for Windows, Linux and macOS. As it has a retro aesthetic and I didn't have anything better to do, I figured that I might as well have it run on DOS.
- mrlonglong 5y agoWatcom C/C++ is much much better and is free for download.
