TBH I've had a bit mixed experiences with asdf and java (mostly big enterprise apps like Oracle SQL Developer needing some hand-holding to work properly, and issues with http kit intercepting network traffic used by SoapUI). Not sure the error lies at the feet of asdf, though. For ruby/node it's a relief to be able to easily "activate" a certain version of ruby and a certain version of nodejs - at the same time, via simply "asdf local ruby ... and asdf local node ...".
