- camgunz 5y agoThanks for that link. I looked in both [0] [1] [2] those places and found nothing, so this is helpful. It just looks like there was a lot of noise around 4/1. Here's the best HN discussion: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30023343 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30023343. - gregjor 5y agoAt least StackOverflow could have put something there and not just a 404. A link to the article I found, for example.
- Varqu 5y agoWe also submitted our platform (https://devitjobs.uk https://devitjobs.uk) recently (didn't gain much spotlight on HN, though) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30877735 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30877735 The approach is similar to the Joel-Test where we ask companies a set of questions to evaluate their development maturity & craftsmanship: - how they write tests - do they use static analysis & CI/CD - if they have dedicated testers, etc.
- gregjor 5y agoThe answers to such questions may indicate something, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say they ”evaluate” development maturity and craftsmanship objectively. The questions you listed are more specific than the original Joel Test from 22 years ago. TDD and CI/CD are neither universal practices nor demonstrable best practices in every case, whereas the more general “Do you use source control?” says something about the development practices.
