people are building desktop software and have been doing that all along. it never went away. people just think that it did. also, there are mature and solid toolkits for desktop software. why not use those? i would never use a shit app toolkit with its origins in web or browser applications to build desktop software. i have used applications built using web toolkits and the user experience or performance is second class.
- Melatonic 5y agoNot sure I would say they are shit toolkits but yes I definitely also generally prefer a desktop native application. For some applications though where latency and the responsiveness of the GUI is not super critical I think it is probably a big advantage to have one web toolkit based piece of software that can run on anything - especially for smaller dev shops.
- b20000 5y agomost desktop toolkits by now support mobile platforms too, so why would you use a web toolkit? if your app needs to be able to deploy on the web it probably has to be completely rearchitected anyway.
