- abalaji 5y agoNo way you're serious; even as an ardent cricket fan I'd never heard of him.
- darrenf 5y agoI am serious. I live in the town where he lived, walk past his grave frequently, and drink in the pub (The Cricketers, Farncombe) where he worked as landlord. The other Caesar has no such presence in my daily life!
- abalaji 5y agoWell, I'll be--that's definitely fair enough!
- B1FF_PSUVM 5y ago> The other Caesar has no such presence in my daily life! Apart from having set up the modern calendar (slightly adjusted in the XVII century) and having a whole month named after him, and a few other minor things such as the original conquest of Britain ... "... what have the Romans done for us?"
- cardiffspaceman 5y ago"All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?” “Brought peace.” “Oh. Peace? Shut up" Are there not vestiges of these things in modern UK today or at least England?
- exdsq 5y agoNot in the North, no.
- saghm 5y agoI always think of the baseball player Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cal_McLish https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cal_McLish). Apparently his dad wanted to make up for not getting to name his older siblings, so he gave him as many names as possible.
- elliekelly 5y agoAll those names and the nickname that stuck was “Bus”? The best laid plans, I guess.
- slg 5y agoAre you by any chance a Jordan Jesse Go listener? I had never heard of McLish before and he just came up on the show yesterday as an example of a fake sounding name for a baseball player.
- saghm 5y agoNope! I actually haven't heard of that (I assume it's a podcast; I don't listen to any personally). I just grew up a big fan of baseball, and since my dad had always been as well, he shared a bunch of knowledge with me directly and through various books I read as a kid. I'm honestly not sure how exactly I first heard of him, since I was so young when it happened.
- slg 5y agoYes, it is a relatively niche comedy podcast so it isn't that common to run into fans outside of that niche. But on the other hand I'm also a baseball fan and hadn't heard of him until yesterday so it was a little surprising to see his name again immediately. Plus the story of his name is too memorable for this to just be the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon. Just a funny coincidence I guess.
- lordnacho 5y agoI think of the Brazilian goalkeeper.
