UK introduces exhaustive Online Safety Bill
- Nextgrid 5y ago> scams and frauds - such as fake adverts - should be covered Very happy to see this. It balances out the bad parts of the bill IMO.
- raxxorrax 5y ago> Definitions of these legal harms will be set out in additional legislation Great, that only mocks criticism against policies like that with concerns of over-blocking. Legal insecurity makes that much worse of course. So I guess the hints were ignored completely. > Some argued a crackdown on the use of anonymous accounts should have been included in the bill. At least that isn't included. These are old men yelling at the cloud but while most prominent operators of clouds want to know as much as possible about people. So privacy and users are under attack from two opposing fronts here. I argue for a crackdown on the speech of people that make such suggestions. > porn Another attempt to ban pornography from the internet.... we are at a point where we cannot allow technically illiterate people to craft laws for online spaces. The reality is that consumption will move to different platforms in the case the most prominent platforms get banned. Age verification will lead to the same behavior. > Others argued the bill was unlikely to live up to expectations. Hopefully in this case.
