Ask HN: Remote Contractors in Russia?
Does anyone have the scoop on hiring remote contractors in Russia as a US company?
Is is allowed? Are the sanctions prohibiting it?
I'm referring to individuals - not companies.

- matt321 5y agoImmoral? Why? IF the person didn't do anything wrong then punishing them for being a certain nationality is immoral.
- version_five 5y ago> punishing them for being a certain nationality A big chunk of humanity seems super keen to direct their hate to out-groups as soon as it becomes socially acceptable

- alophawen 5y agoImmoral because of the current situation and how western countries are showing their support with Ukraine, even the US.
- version_five 5y agoI'd be interested to understand more about your definition of morality
- alophawen 5y agoDo you have something substantive to add to the discussion? Or just a snide remark at them?
- unsupp0rted 5y agoIt's neither immoral nor treasonous to interact with individual Russian people as human beings. Immoral would be working with public or private entities that hurt people. Treasonous would be transferring funds to sanctioned entities or individuals, perhaps. Hiring Vlad from Irkutsk, who's a kind HN member like you and me, to write a CRUD app for a digital agency, is neither immoral nor treasonous.
- phendrenad2 5y agoYou should ask a lawyer, not HN. And I don't really know how sanctions work in practice, but I wouldn't want to run afoul of a government that might want to make an example of anyone doing business with anyone residing in Russia past some cutoff point.
