Appeal to tech companies: Shutdowns are a tool of dictatorship, not democracy
- raxxorrax 5y agoWe already saw financial institutions cancelling peoples accounts for protests. That did set a new precedent in my opinion. Tech should react differently in my opinion. Also disappointing was how sport events excluded Russians. Formerly sports was seen as something that could do it better than states. Now they are just part of the conflict of an alleged public that does not really exist. Shameful self-degradation in my opinion.
- emteycz 5y agoSports tried to include Russians, and this happened: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/mar/07/shocking-behaviour-russian-gymnast-shows-z-symbol-on-podium-next-to-ukrainian-winner https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/mar/07/shocking-behav... And he would do it again: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/mar/08/gymnast-ivan-kuliak-says-he-would-show-support-for-russia-again https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/mar/08/gymnast-ivan-k... So ban it is.
- Dracophoenix 5y agoHow does the letter Z ban-worthy in the space of two weeks and why would they ban a whole team for the actions of an individual?
- emteycz 5y agoEasily - a mad dictator makes it their symbol of propaganda that represents murder and destruction. They would ban the whole team because it seems like Russians just try to make shit up everywhere they go - especially those in privileged positions, such as career sportspeople.
- jaynetics 5y agosport is one of the best things to sanction - very visible to the population whilst causing zero actual harm to it
