Nvidia hackers leak 190GB of sensitive data from Samsung
- netsharc 5y agoGeez, I wondered how they got Samsung data by hacking Nvidia.. terrible title by the article writers there.
- skilled 5y agoIf this is okay with HN rules the magnet link is here: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:2df266c276cb8581b47afa091cfce1bdad7c2e99 I imagine it will take some time for someone to actually verify the files.
- danaos 5y agoFrom another forum: > Some Torrent clients seem to have an issue with it (eg Transmission), just try another client. qbittorrent seems to work.
- robbedpeter 5y agoThe Qualcomm source could be very interesting for the pinephone scene. This also means a lot of zero days are coming for Samsung phones.
- bushbaba 5y agoNvidia’s GTC is coming up soon. will be interesting to see this play out. One of nvidia’s largest moats to ML and Gaming workloads is the proprietary software it provides.
- gruez 5y ago[flagged]
- squarefoot 5y agoIt seems there is some documentation or source code that would help the development of alternate spyware/ads free firmware for Samsung Smart TVs. Let's hope it will be used the right way.
- megous 5y agoAnd there goes all the secure boot fluff... Now we will see how secure it really is against attacks when the code is available, and some keys apparently, too.
- sul_tasto 5y agoIs it reasonable to conclude that open source software is by definition more secure, since it is immune from such leaks?
- thfuran 5y agoSo the hackers have actually just secured all of Nvidia's and Samsung's private information, out in public?
- stonewareslord 5y agoLeaking source doesn't make the code open source. It's still closed source
- aaaaaaaaata 5y agoNo, now it's "source available", lol
- danuker 5y agoAnother way to throw the baby out with the bathwater: disconnect and turn off your computer, for security.
- chii 5y agoopen source software doesn't mean anything other than source is "open" - security is orthogonal. And also, just because more eyeballs are on it doesn't mean it is automagically more secure.
- Anonymous4272 5y agoSeems like Vodafone will be next, based on their poll
- ichugwindex 5y agoAre the hackers polling for recommendations on who to go after next?
- JakeAl 5y agoSo does this mean we'll be getting some decent CFM for Samsung devices?
- ChrisArchitect 5y agoUnderstand the mining rig/NVIDIA demands but why are they going after Samsung? Is there some connection or is it just general ransom target because they can etc
