I would go as far that misinformation isn't really that much of a problem if it isn't perpetuated by media that is expected to report more truthfully. The first we heard about it was the election in the US in 2016. There was misinformation about connecting Trump to Russia which was perpetuated by the media, which I think is a pretty huge scandal and the battle against misinformation is a distraction from that.
