I do not want a Ministry of Truth to judge on my behalf on the value of information.
Information wants to be free and any attempt for suppression is only for MOT's owners' short-term gains.
- rektide 5y agoright on. i hope we can establish better socialized collective defenses. send up a visible flare when we run across bad content, & have digital juries of peers come weigh the situation. rely on overlay networks to share & reinforce trust & mistrust. so many possibilities. but they seemingly only are going to be able to evolve & survive if they work across sites, & arent governed by sites nor states. society must own it's own sense, otherwise we're forever being babysat.
- raxxorrax 5y agoI would go as far that misinformation isn't really that much of a problem if it isn't perpetuated by media that is expected to report more truthfully. The first we heard about it was the election in the US in 2016. There was misinformation about connecting Trump to Russia which was perpetuated by the media, which I think is a pretty huge scandal and the battle against misinformation is a distraction from that.
