- thoughtsimple 5y agoCan you use iCloud?
- musicale 5y agoUTM appears to be based on qemu, and it has full emulation capabilities. edit: in addition to native virtualization, as noted below
- 0x6A75616E 5y agoUnder "Additional macOS features": - Hardware accelerated virtualization using Hypervisor.framework and QEMU - Boot macOS guests with Virtualization.framework on macOS 12+ So, it does use Virtualization.framework for macOS guests.

- musicale 5y agoIndeed. Note that qemu has support various native virtualization platforms including kvm, macOS' hypervisor framework, and Windows hypervisor. I'm not sure whether qemu supports M1 macOS out of the box (though it does seem to support ARM Linux and Windows) though, so perhaps that's an added feature from UTM.
- pitterpatter 5y agoSupport for using Hypervisor.framework on M1 Macs was added in 6.2: https://wiki.qemu.org/ChangeLog/6.2#Arm https://wiki.qemu.org/ChangeLog/6.2#Arm >On macOS hosts with Apple Silicon CPUs we now support the 'hvf' accelerator for running AArch64 guests

- tkiolp4 5y agoQemu doesn’t support vmnet (so you cannot have host-only and bridge network modes using Mac hosts)

- willswire 5y agoLove me some UTM. I use it to virtualize the ARM version of Kali. Works flawlessly on M1 MacBook Air!
- cyberge99 5y agoIf you’re looking for a lighter weight vm (microvm almost), check out lima and colima.
- solarkraft 5y agoBig +1 for lima. It's basically WSL2 for macOS.
- cpach 5y agoIt’s not clear to me what colima[0] adds to lima[1]. Does anyone know? [0] https://github.com/abiosoft/colima https://github.com/abiosoft/colima [1] https://github.com/lima-vm/lima https://github.com/lima-vm/lima
