It still can never be sustainable since the work needed is arbitrary. Any other mechanism to release more coins would work to. There is no real value extracted from solving the mathematical challenge for Bitcoin.
- dataangel 5y agoNo, most mechanisms would not work. You need a mechanism that can't be forged. Whether you like Bitcoin or not the choice of mining to release coins is an engineering decision and not arbitrary at all.
