Astronomers Find First-Ever Rogue Black Hole Adrift in the Milky Way
- raxxorrax 5y agoIt is a very interesting find. But why is it "rogue"? It is gravitationally bound to our galaxy is it not? I would suspect because our methods of detection classically was dependent on nearby objects, but the interesting part about this is that we could detect the probably "normal" case of a black hole within our galaxy.
- didgeoridoo 5y agoIt’s a terrible headline. “Rogue” black holes have been observed before, but only by detecting emissions from infalling matter (usually from a star being consumed). This is the first free-floating black hole detected entirely via gravitational lensing.
